English: This is the house most associated with Matt Talbot as it is where he lived most in his life.
Rutland Street (Upper) saw demolition in the late 60’s. The new block of flats finished in 1972 was given the name Matt Talbot Court. The text on the commemorative plaque reads: “These flats have been named Matt Talbot Court To commemorate the servant of God Matt Talbot who for the last 25 years of his life lived in a single room in 18 Upper Rutland Street this house with many others has been demolished to make way for these flats its site is marked to the left of this plaque. Matt Talbot was born 2nd may 1856; Died 7th June 1925. The cause of beatification and canonisation of the servant of God was introduced 28th February 1947. Erected August 1971” Upper Rutland Street was renamed Séan O Casey Avenue in 1987 |
