English: This geo-color/infrared animation of Severe Tropical Storm Mawar over the open Western Pacific Ocean was captured during the late afternoon to evening hours of May 21, 2023, between 04:50 UTC to 13:00 UTC, which equates to 02:50 PM to 11:00 PM in Guam, by the Advanced Meteorological Imager (AMI) instrument flying aboard Korean Meteorological Administrations' GEO-KOMPSAT-2A satellite. When this image was taken, Mawar was intensifying and heading toward the U.S. Territory of Guam, which is expected to pass by the region on Wednesday. By the end of the animation, Mawar had winds of 110 km/h (70 mph) (60 knots) on the 10-min Japan Meteorological Agency typhoon scale, making it a "Severe Tropical Storm" on the scale, and according to the Joint Typhoon Warning Center the storm, had 1-min sustained winds of 120 km/h (75 mph) (65 knots) making it equivalent to a "Category 1 hurricane," the official minimum central pressure was 985 mbar (29.1 inHg).
