Description
English: Mechanic's Bell 1845 page 90. The original location of Mechanic's Bell in 1831, was in the Square around Manhattan Market, page 86. The Bell stood in a high wooden tower at the intersection of Lewis and Third streets. The bell was removed in 1844 to a vacant lot southwest corner of Lewis and 5th streets, here it remained till 1872, when it was moved to the foot of Fourth Street. It was move again in 1867 to Webb's Academy and Home for Shipbuilders, at Fordham Heights. Chapter V.
