English: Meniscus hollows, also known as "irregular mare patches" (here - bright features on the left rim of the crater [they exist in the right as well, but badly seen due to illumination]) on the Moon, in northwestern Mare Fecunditatis (1.97°S, 43.33°E), in a dark (probably covered with pyroclastic deposits) region near lunar dome Me1, which is interpreted (Lena et al., 2013, p.97-99) as a small shield volcano. See Stooke, 2012 and Braden et al., 2014 (this set of hollows is number 58 in the catalogue of the 2nd paper). Photo by Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, taken with Narrow Angle Camera (NAC) 7 October 2016 from altitude 76 km. Sun elevation is 23.8°. Width of the image is approximately 600 m, north is approximately up (somewhat to the right). |
