Summary[edit]
DescriptionMeridian Theatres @ Centrepointe (48849231556).jpg |
After shooting the front of Ben Franklin Place during blue hour this morning I wandered around the building, past the entrance to the library and around to the east-facing facade. I stopped at this point to admire the sweeping curves at this part of the complex. Although not the work of Douglas Cardinal, to me, they are reminiscent of his work. While shown here in black and white, the concrete facade is a soft pink, which suffice to say, was an interesting choice. The library is visible through the windows on the first floor. Meridian Theatres is located inside Ben Franklin Place (my previous image on Flickr). Ben Franklin place was built as Nepean’s city hall - and all around municipal complex - during Ben Franklin’s reign as Nepean Mayor. This was prior to amalgamation with the city of Ottawa, which occurred in 2001. “Centrepointe Theatre has become an important cultural venue for the west end of the city. An expansion of the theatre (not shown here) was realized in 2011.”(1). “Meridian Theatres @ Centrepointe opened as Centrepointe Theatre in May 1988. Owned and operated by the city, it serves the community with its own programming, provides a venue for commercial promoters, and regular local groups like Orpheus, Les Petits Ballets, and Suzart Productions.”(2) Architects: Kohler, Dickey, Edmundson 1986-1988 Barry J.
