Summary[edit]

Description

Eglise Notre-Dame.

(page 274)

NOTRE DAME CHURCH.

The beautiful Romanesque portal of the church dates from the 12th century Mesland. It has 27 heads representing bearded elders of the Apocalypse.

Mesland with its priory belonged to the abbey of Marmoutier.

In the monumental, or collection of memories and information bulletin for use in the manufacture of a statistical monuments of France, chronologically, the fourth volume (1838)

REPORT on the Historical Monuments of the department of Loir-et-Cher, it would be necessary to re repair or complete; By M. DE LA SAUSSAYE, Divisional Inspector.

Frankish Period. - I only know of one building at the time Frankish, church Mesland, whose remarkable portal by its triple archivolte decorated with flat heads, a very singular design, a lot of pain for the loss of the porch which surrounded and guaranteed by the destructive action of rain in the west. The stones of the gate, but lately even a great white, begin to cover moss and lichens, and a flat head is detached from the keystone that supported. The Making of the church is too poor to rebuild the porch and she would need a small subsidy. (page 274)
