Description
Deutsch: 54675 Mettendorf, Im Fronhof 3. Auf dem Kirchenvorplatz befindet sich das Maximilian-Kolbe-Denkmal mit Brunnen und Sonnenuhr. Die eingebaute Glocke stammt aus dem Jahre 1520. Pater Maximilian Kolbe (1894-1941) opferte sich im Konzentrationslager Auschwitz für das Leben eines Familienvaters, dessen Platz er im sogenannten Hungerbunker einnahm. Da er und weitere drei Mithäftlinge nicht verhungert waren, wurden sie kurzerhand von nationalsozialistischen Ärzten am 14.08.1941 mit einer Phenolspritze umgebracht. Aufnahme des Denkmals von 2017.
