Description
Italiano: Micrococcus pierantonii Zirpolo, 1918, la nuova specie di batterio fotogeno isolata da Giuseppe Zirpolo nel luglio del 1918 dall’organo luminoso lenticolare, infossato nella tasca del nero, della Rondeletiola minor (Naef,1912).
Nella descrizione di Zirpolo, il cocco, di forma non perfettamente sferica, misurava 1,2 μm di diametro massimo e 1,8 μm nella forma coccobacillare. Mobile, privo di ciglia e di spore, si colorava con i comuni colori di anilina ma non resisteva al Gram. Le colonie di forma sferica, pianeggianti, a margini interi, raggiungevano circa 1 mm di diametro, con luce verde più o meno intensa, a seconda dei terreni di coltura.
