| Description |
Microsyenite in the Precambrian of Ontario, Canada. At this locality, granodiorites of the Mission Stock have been intruded by unusual igneous dikes composed of monchiquite lamprophyre and orangish-red microsyenite. The geologic literature describes the microsyenite here as having rare, subhedral K-feldspar microphenocrysts in a groundmass of hematite-coated orthoclase feldspar, minor quartz, sodium-amphibole, and opaque oxide minerals. [Info. from Massey, 1985, p. 43.] The age of the microsyenite is probably Proterozoic, and possibly late Mesoproterozoic. Massey (1985) and Wilson (2006) suggest that this dike was emplaced at about the same time as the nearby Firesand River Carbonatite Complex, which dates to 1.078 Ga.
