Summary[edit]

Description

c/n ZD0105094. On outside display at the Muzeum Lotnictwa Polskiego. Krakow, Poland. 23-8-2013.

The following info is taken from the museum website:-

"In the early 1970s the Research and Development Center of the helicopter plant at Świdnik initiated studies on a troop carrier version of the Mi‑2. The result was the Mi‑2M2 version with redesigned fuselage. The fuel tank was moved below the cabin floor, which increased the cabin's volume. Folding benches for troops were fitted along the cabin walls. Front and rear sliding doors on both sides of the fuselage provided access to the cockpit and transport cabin. The landing gear track was widened. The powerplant comprised two modified GTD‑350P engines, rated at 450 hp each. Changes included also fuel and electrical systems.

The prototype first flew on July 1st, 1974. The new version had worse flight characteristics and larger takeoff weight than the original Mi‑2. Moreover, the GTD‑350P engines caused problems, therefore the modified version did not enter series production.

The example on display was given to the Military University of Technology at Warsaw. It was donated to the Polish Aviation Museum in 2007."
