Nederlands: Op 10 mei 1940 rond 04.00 uur in de ochtend, bombardeerde de Duitse luchtmacht de Alexander kazerne in Den Haag. Als gevolg daarvan kwamen 66 huzaren van de Cavalerie om het leven. Naast de doden vielen er meer dan 150 gewonden. Velen van hun waren ernstig verminkt, leden aan brandwonden of verloren armen en/of benen. De soldaten waren vooral reservisten, gemobiliseerd als gevolg van de Duitse militaire dreiging. Ook meer dan 100 paarden van de cavalerie werden gedood als gevolg van het bombardement. Vele paarden waren ernstig gewond geraakt en moesten worden afgemaakt door dierenartsen. Er werd gemeld dat het geluid van hun urenlange geschreeuw van onder het puin, in hoge mate heeft bijgedragen aan de totale verschrikking van de overlevenden.
English: On May 10, 1940 around 04:00 in the morning, the German air force bombed the Prince Alexander Military Barracks in The Hague, the Netherlands. As a result, 66 hussars of the Cavalry where killed. In addition to the dead over 150 soldiers and officers where injured. Many where severely mutilated, suffering from burns, and some having lost their arm(s) and/or leg(s). The soldiers where mostly reservists, mobilized on account of the imminent German military threat. Also more than 100 horses beloning to the cavalry where killed as a result of the bombardment. Many of them where severly injured and had to be killed by veterinarians. It was reported that the sound of their screams from under the rubbles, lasting for hours, contributed to the overall horror of the survivors.
Français : Le 10 mai 1940 vers 04h00 du matin, l'armée de l'air allemande a bombardé les casernes militaires du prince Alexander à La Haye, aux Pays-Bas. En conséquence, 66 hussards de la Cavalerie où tués. En plus des morts, plus de 150 soldats et officiers ont été blessés. Beaucoup d'entre eux sont gravement mutilés, souffrent de brûlures et certains ont perdu leur bras et / ou leurs jambes. Les soldats, majoritairement réservistes, se sont mobilisés en raison de la menace imminente de l'armée allemande. Aussi plus de 100 chevaux belonnant à la cavalerie où tués à la suite du bombardement. Beaucoup d'entre eux ont été gravement blessés et ont dû être tués par des vétérinaires. Il a été rapporté que le bruit de leurs cris sous les décombres, pendant des heures, a contribué à l'horreur globale des survivants.
