Français : Monument du roi Léopold Ier de Belgique au parc de Laeken en 1880. — Le monument du roi Léopold Ier (appelé maintenant « monument de la dynastie »), de style néo-gothique flamboyant, a été édifié en 1880 par l’architecte gantois Louis de Curte (1817-1891). Il est situé dans le parc de Laeken, face au grilles du château royal de Laeken. Ses neuf arcades surmontées de neuf pinacles (petites pyramides ajourées) symbolisent l’unité des neuf provinces et celle de la Belgique derrière son roi. Chaque province a son effigie sculptée par un artiste connu de l’époque. La flèche culmine à 43 mètres de hauteur et repose sur un massif en maçonnerie de 16 mètres de profondeur. Un escalier à vis dans une cage de colonnette permet l’accès aux étages. Il est toutefois fermé au public. Sur la gravure, on peut apercevoir au sommet de la flèche la statue en cuivre d’un ange. La statue ne pouvant résister aux intempéries, elle a été retirée et placée sur l’une des ailes du Musée des Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles. |
