English: Main courtyard or main square of Patan Durbar area, a historical town in Lalitpur district. Built in 1666 by Shri Niwas Malla, the courtyard was rebuilt in 1730 and 1850. In the middle part of this courtyard is the temple of the favorite deity of the Malla kings, on one side there is a very artistic style Dashai Ghar and on the other side there is the temple of Taleju Bhawani. In this Dashain house, worship is performed in the traditional style by bringing Taleju Bhavani on the Foolpati of Bijaya Dashami, the great festival of Nepalis. Sacrifices are also offered on the same day. The square courtyard has a 17th century concrete tile. The entrance to the square was built in a very artistic style in the 1850s. Around this main courtyard are unique gifts of exquisite woodwork. Very attractive tundals, wooden art idols of various gods. In this historical square, there are Dashain houses, temple of Taleju Bhawani and various heritages. Sundari Chowk and Bhandarkhal Tank can be reached through the main chowk. The main square was rehabilitated in 2011 after dilapidation. Various tourists enjoy seeing the artefacts in this square. |
