Description

The illuminated track diagram mounted on the block shelf in Morecambe signal box. Tuesday 3rd November 1987

Morecambe signal box was located by the south side of the line at the end of the platforms at Morecambe Promenade station, and was a Midland Railway Type 4b design which opened in 1907 replacing a 1892-built signal box located a short distance to the east. On 11th May 1919 a replacement 92 lever Midland Railway Tappet frame was installed. The signal box was closed at 23:20hrs on 7th February 1994 and double line absolute block between Bare Lane and Morecambe signal boxes was replaced by two parallel single lines between Bare Lane signal box and Morecambe station. The Up & Down Morecambe being operated by one train working without staff, and the Up & Down Heysham being operated by one train working with staff

Attached to the front of the block shelf are a series of colour light signal and point indication repeaters, sealed releases and a semaphore signal arm repeater

The diagram is dated 1967, and shows 77 points secured in reverse, and 42 and 83 secured in normal. As a result platforms 3 and 4, and sidings 1, 2, 4 and 5 were out of use
