Summary

[edit]
Description

Joan Miró (1893-1983) was a was a famous Spanish painter, sculptor and ceramicist. He was born in Barcelona and one of his works can be seen on the famous Rambla street in the city. It was designed to welcome those visitors to the city who arrive at the port and make their way along the Rambla towards the city centre.

It was created in 1976 and is 8 metres (26 ft) in diameter. It's called the "Mosaic del Pla de l'Os". It was designed to be walked over and every day thousands of people do so, perhaps without a thought.

There are a number of his works to be seen in and about the city. If you look towards the top right of my picture, on the corner of the wall, behind a streetlamp, there is a green dragon.
