Summary[edit]

Description
English: This photograph of 1974 shows the discotheque Scotch Kneipe in Munich, which opened in 1964. While "Kneipe" actually means pub or bar in German, according to German weekly news magazine DER SPIEGEL, issue 16 of 1965, the then well-known venue was a fully equipped discotheque with a cutting-edge sound system and go-go girls who danced in cages. From the 1950s to 1964, the venue had hosted the Tarantel (respectively "Tarantula", according to The American-German Review), an also renowned jazz club next to its Munich competitor Nachteule, with a focus on modern jazz. Musicians who performed at the Tarantel include Stan Getz, Lucky Thompson and Nat Adderley. In 1980, the discotheque was converted into a piano bar, hosting musicians such as Romanian-German jazz pianist Eugen Cicero, and later became a blues and rock venue called Jukebox.

Sammlung Fentriss.
