Description |
Murat Bay Jetty, c. 1905. French expedition leader Nicolas Baudin discovered Murat Bay after meeting with Flinders and named it after Joachim Murat. A petition to have the town of Ceduna surveyed was signed in 1896. Ceduna was eventually surveyed and proclaimed in 1901 and for some years was known simply at Murat Bay. The name was changed in 1921 when the local Post Office removed the name of the bay and replaced it with the name of the railway siding. The jetty, which runs out into Murat Bay was built in 1902/3 by John Tait. For many years, locals called the township Murat Bay and it was not until the railways came and called the siding Ceduna in 1915 that locals adopted the name. |
