Description
English: Finds from Graves A, Z, H and K, Grave Circle B, Mycenae. 17th - 16th cent. B.C.

2. Minyan goblet. Minyan pottery, with a burnished, unpainted surface, is typical of the Middle Helladic period. It owes its name to Minyas, the mythical king of Orchomenos (Boeotia), where the first samples were found. Inv. no. 8564.

3. Juglet of red clay with white decoration. Inv. no. 8566.

4. Silver jug, originally covered with a piece of cloth. Inv. no. 8659.

5. Faience cup with relief floral decoration on the interior of the handle. Inv. no. 8567.

6-7. Clay jugs with linear and spiral decoration on the shoulder respectively. Inv. no. 8667, 8669.

11-12. Fragments of gold bands from diadems. Inv. no. 8561, 8562.

13. Bronze Type B sword with spiral decoration on the blade. Type B swords are shorter, stronger, and more durable than their predecessors (Type A) and are regarded as a typical Mycenaean creation. Both of these sword types were designed to pierce the body. Inv. no. 8570.

14-15. Bronze spearhead and a large knife. Inv. no. 8574, 8578.

16-18. Bronze Type A swords, one with silver nails on the hilt and spiral decoration on the blade. The Type A sword originates from Minoan Crete. One of the most impressive swords of the Mycenaean world, it was nonetheless fragile because of the weak attachment of the handle onto the blade, and so it was soon replaced by the more advanced Type B sword. Inv. no. 8572, 8666, 8573.

19. Bronze dagger, Inv. no. 8668.

20-22. Bronze leaf-shaped dagger and knives. Inv. no. 8577, 8576, 8575.

23-24. Bronze pins, one with rock-crystal head (8565, 8568).
