Description
English: The Director of Naval History, Rear Admiral John B. Heffernan, presented the Marine Corps with the ship's bell from "Old Number One", the USS HENDERSON (AP-1), during a ceremony held at Henderson Hall on 16 February 1955. Shown here through the bell stanchion, General Lemuel C. Shepherd, Jr., Commandant of the Marine Corps, makes a short acceptance speech while a Marine orderly stands by to ring eight bells.
