Summary

[edit]
Description

English: Outcropped Upper Muschelkalk (part oft he Middle Triassic) in a huge abandoned quarry, which reaches down into groundwater level. The quarry is part of a Naturschutzgebiet near Tübingen. The section in the middle of the vertical Upper Muschelkalk wall, having a clear lower and upper border, consists of thinly bedded limestone in which Ceratites are found. The beds above these are “Trigonodus dolomites” of which the bedding is kind of weak. As seen in several parts, these facies tend to weather into marls. The soil on top of the rocks is a thin layer of Rendzina.
