Description

More than four hours into the train ride and 330 km north-east of Lhasa, we passed one of the bigger towns in Tibet: Na Qu or Nagchukha in Tibetan (Nagqu for short). The railway doesn't pass through the town proper, its station is a little outside at an elevation of 4513 m.

Nagqu town is a political, economic, cultural and trading center as well as a transport hub in Tibet, located at the juncture of three highways - Qinghai-Tibet Highway, Sichuan-Tibet Highway and Heihe Highway - 328 km from Lhasa and 838 km from Golmud in Quinghai.
