| Description |
In 1996, I made my first-ever visit to Washington, DC, using the Election Day long weekend, while I was a college student in New York City. I spent four days in the capital, and my emphasis was primarily to cover various topics that I had learned in my high school history and government/civics classes. The Smithsonian museums are always a nice stop, especially since they are free. I am visiting one of the most popular, the National Air & Space Museum, whose lobby, seen here, is full of history-making artifacts, including Apollo XI which had carried out the first manned trip to the Moon, the X-15 test plane, a replica Wright Flyer, and the Soviet SS-20 ICBM that had been phased out less than a decade prior. |
