1685 kamen 14 Familien aus Bern nach Nattweiler. Wegen der schlechten Bedingungen im Golmer Luch zogen die meisten Familien weiter, einige hielten jedoch aus, und noch heute leben ihre Nachfahren im Ort.

Obwohl die vier Kolonistenhöfe 1867 abbrannten und nur in ihren Grundmaßen neu aufgebaut wurden, ist die ursprüngliche Struktur des Dorfes noch heute deutlich erkennbar.

1690 wurde die Kirche für die Schweizer Kolonisten in Nattweiler und den umliegenden Orten geweiht. Abgesehen von der Orgel (1996 renoviert) ist die Kirche vollständig im Originalzustand und mit der Originalausstattung erhalten und gleichzeitig die älteste Kirche in Potsdam.

Die Kirche und der sie umgebende Friedhof halten die Erinnerung an die Schweizer Kolonisten wach. Die ältesten erhaltenen Grabstätten stammen vom Anfang des 18. Jahrhunderts.

Nattwerder ist seit 2003 ein Gemeindeteil des Ortsteils Grube der Stadt Potsdam und hat ca. 40 Einwohner.
