Summary[edit]

Description Fig. 23- Radio direction finder or coil aerial used in measuring the distortion of radio waves in the vicinity of trees, towers, wires, buildings, etc. Fig. 24- Model set up in the radio laboratory to illustrate the use of the radio direction finder. Radio signals were sent out from the two lighthouses and the direction from whence they came was determined by the apparatus on the ship. The latter could therefore determine its position even in fog and under other conditions which rendered the lighthouse lamp invisible. (From: NBS Special Publication 46)
