In der Anlage I zur 19. Verordnung über Naturdenkmäler der Region Hannover wird der Baum als ND-H 245 "Rotbuche im Quantelholz" wegen seiner Schönheit und Größe erfasst.
Der Baum ist nicht als Naturdenkmal gekennzeichnet und im Vergleich zu den anderen Buchen für mich nur wenig herausragend, ist aber jedenfalls der größte zwischen Weg und Flutrinne im Norden des Quantelholzes. Ein besonders großer Baumstumpf, der darauf schließen ließe, dass ND-H 245 nicht mehr existiert, war an der beschriebenen Stelle nicht zu finden. Damit muss es sich wohl um ND-H 245 handeln.
