There are eight round stone grondzeiler windmills, which were completed in 1738. The Nederwaard windmills are not lined up neatly; instead, they are staggered to ensure that they would not block each other’s wind, especially in the event of a prevailing west wind.

Kinderdijk is a small village only 16 kilometers (10 miles) from Rotterdam and a little bit less than 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) from the city border of the oldest city in Holland, Dordrecht.

Kinderdijk is unique for it 19 windmills dating from the 1500s and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

A significant part of Holland is situated up to approximately 7 meters (23 ft) below sea level. The Dutch don’t notice any of this though, because an incredibly innovative and intricate system keeps the ever-rising seawater from flooding the land.
