Summary

[edit]
Description
English: After several Saharan Dust storms affected Europe during the first half of 2022, a new influx is now reaching the Mediterranean basin. On 30 June 2022, one of the Copernicus Sentinel-3 satellites captured this image, showing the Saharan dust cloud engulfing the skies of North Africa, South Italy and Malta. The storm is expected to persist and reach Spain in the coming days. Suspended dust causes air quality to significantly worsen, affecting human health. It also affects production of solar power, as it deposits on solar panels and reduces their efficiency. The Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) provides forecasts to help planning the measures needed to limit the negative effects of dust storms and has closely monitored this year’s dust storm episodes.
