Summary[edit]

Description

A Special Forces Soldier from A Company 2nd Battalion, 19th Special Forces Group jumps from an HH-60 Pave Hawk with the 101st Rescue Squadron on July 24th, 2014.

The Soldiers training with the 101 RQS took turns mounting an inflatable zodiac to the bottom of the HH-60 Pave Hawk, then flying out to the ocean to release it. The Soldiers would then follow the zodiac into the water.

Shortly after, the aircrew extracted the soldiers from the water using a SPIE system. The SPIE (or Special Patrol Insertion/Extraction) system was developed as a means to rapidly insert and/or extract service members from an area that does not permit a helicopter to land.
