Description
The Danish brig Lougen was built in 1805 and it was one of the few Danish naval vessels to escape capture by the British in 1807. From its base in Norway it fought off small British vessels, like the brig HMS Childers shown here. The text on the aquatint can be disputed. HMS Childers was in fact smaller than the Lougen and in the British account it was the Danish brig that fled when the Lougen closed in on HMS Childers.

(The naval brig Lougen, captained by First Lieutenant Wulf, delivered at the end of a running engagement from 7 to 11 p.m. on March 14 1808 off Christiansand - to a larger English brig a full broadside, which immediately caused it to flee).
