| Description |
English: Nifty Geyser is a very small feature in the Sawmill Group of Yellowstone's Upper Geyser Basin. The geyser's vent is a small slit several inches long. Its behavior varies from dormancy to occasional blipping to low, intermittent eruptions to low perpetual spouting. In spring 2017, Nifty Geyser was observed to be a perpetual spouter (e.g., see this video from 22 April 2017, starting at time stamp 0:34: vimeo.com/214604878). This steady eruptive behavior was associated with changes in the Sawmill Group that started a couple months earlier in winter 2017. The normally very active Sawmill Geyser became dormant; this resulted in dormancies and atypical behaviors in other members of the group.
Shown above is Nifty Geyser in early June 2017. The dark area around the vent is wet from eruption water. On this day, Nifty wasn't quite the energetic perpetual spouter it was in late April, but it was having very frequent low spouting and blipping.
