Description
English: Niraparayum and Nilvalikkum - traditional arrangement in Kerala for receiving processions from temples in front of houses. “Para” is a traditional measuring vessel for measuring paddy and rice in Kerala. Para is filled with rice. The coconut flower is placed in the paddy in para. Nilavilakku is a long oil lamp used for prayers. In front of the lamp, avil (flattened rice) , pori (puffed rice), banana fruit, Kalkandam (white Sugar Rock Candy), jaggery, betel leaves and areca nut and water in kindi (vessel) are arranged as offerings to God over a banana leaf. And the entire arrangement is decorated with flowers and garlands.
