Summary[edit]
DescriptionNorth Point Chapel (former First Methodist Episcopal Church), Albion, New York - 20200711.jpg |
English: North Point Chapel, 19 North Platt Street at East State Street, Albion, New York, July 2020. This imposing brick edifice ultimately dates back to 1834, but essentially all of what's visible in this photograph was the product of an extensive 1914 renovation spearheaded by John H. Coxhead, a prominent Buffalo architect most famous for his ecclesiastical work. A stylistic hybrid of the Romanesque Revival (notice the motif of round arches which manifest themselves ubiquitously over ever window and door, as well as the raking corbel tables below the gables) and the Colonial Revival, the church's most prominent distinguishing feature is the round-arched stained-glass window seen here to the left of the tower, which, if it's not an original Tiffany window, is a convincing imitation of the style. The First Methodist Episcopal (later First United Methodist) Church used the building until 2015; it's now home to the nondenominational North Point Chapel. |
