Português: Este forte Castelo do Mar, no Sítio Histórico do Cabo de Santo Agostinho e Baía de Suape. Começado a construir na primeira metade do século XVII, estava montado sobre os rochedos, bem acima da entrada do porto e na barra.
Trata-se de uma entrada complicada, arriscada e perigosa, mesmo para os que a conheciam muito bem. A extensa linha de arrecifes que defende a enseada, era interrompida apenas, a poucos metros dos rochedos, deixando uma passagem estreita entre as pedras, onde o mar nem sempre é calmo. Muito pelo contrário, sob a ação dos ventos, as ondas batem com força no paredão natural, subindo pelas escarpas, e tornando muito temerária a passagem entre as pedras.

O Cabo de Santo Agostinho e Baía de Suape, em Cabo de Santo Agostinho-Pernambuco Brasil, foi tombado por sua importância natural. Nele é possível perceber grandes voçorocas e ravinas que evidenciam um antigo processo de erosão, conforme descrito no ano de 1614 por Mateus Jorge (apud MELLO NETO, 1981, p. 39), ao afirmar que a terra do promontório parece como “escalvada a modo de restolho, e sem arvoredo, e sem mato, salvante umas árvores baixas longe umas das outras”.
E o Sítio Histórico do Cabo de Santo Agostinho e Baía de Suape do ponto de vista natural, apresenta um promontório caracterizado por uma extrusão vulcânica que avança sobre o oceano Atlântico. A formação rochosa do promontório é estudada por geólogos, pois ela é composta por um granito único no território brasileiro. E ele seja possivelmente, o que representa o último ponto de ruptura entre os continentes americano e africano.
