TITEL: OBENABEKINDER IN BASEL ORT: Appenzell Ausserrhoden MASSE: 158 x 340 cm STANDORT: Gotthelf-Schulhaus, Basel URHEBER/-IN: Burkhard Mangold, Basel Ausschnitt aus einem 1902-1903 erstellten Wandbild des Basler Malers Burkhard Mangold (1873-1950), mit Wasserfarben auf Leinwand gemalt, in der Aula des Gotthelf-Schulhauses in Basel. Der Ausschnitt trägt den Titel „Basels Bürgerschaft empfängt die armen ‚Obenabekinder’ aus Appenzell & a. O. 1800". Als „Obenabekinder“ wurden die Kinder aus dem Glarner- und Appenzellerland bezeichnet, die aus den „durch den unglückseligen Krieg verheerten obern Kantonen“ der Schweiz stammten, wie aus einer Nachricht der Basler Hülfsgesellschaft hervorgeht. |
