Der Ausschnitt trägt den Titel „Basels Bürgerschaft empfängt die armen ‚Obenabekinder’ aus Appenzell & a. O. 1800". Als „Obenabekinder“ wurden die Kinder aus dem Glarner- und Appenzellerland bezeichnet, die aus den „durch den unglückseligen Krieg verheerten obern Kantonen“ der Schweiz stammten, wie aus einer Nachricht der Basler Hülfsgesellschaft hervorgeht.
