Summary[edit]

Description
English: The dental offices of Dr. Fred A. Luongo at 250 Linwood Avenue in Buffalo, New York, as seen on a March 2023 evening. Originally a private residence, this two-story wood-framed beauty was built in 1917 on one of the last remaining vacant lots on the block and is an excellent example of the Colonial Revival style that was then in the midst of a long period of popularity on the upper-class residential architecture scene. The side-gabled roof flanked by centrally placed twin chimney stacks, scrupulously symmetrical five-bay façade perforated by flat headed six-over-six sash windows, and the handsome Classically-inspired framing of the main entrance - namely fluted Doric pilaster strips supporting an architrave crowned by a swan's-neck pediment - are all classic hallmarks of the aesthetic. This was the longtime home of Dr. Carlton Rogers Jewett (1852-1937), a Cayuga County-born physician who was described in his obituary as having been "one of Buffalo's most distinguished general practitioners" before his retirement in 1922. Also a perennial fixture on the local social scene, Dr. Jewett lived in the home until his death, and his widow, the former Jessie Clark, remained there until her own demise four years later.
