Summary[edit]

Description This Second Empire-style building at the corner of Fayetteville Street and Martin Street was designed by Alfred B. Mullett (who designed the Old Executive Office Building in Washington, DC) and was built as a federal office building and post office for the state of North Carolina in 1874. It has gone through several expansions and alterations, but today continues in its role as the downtown post office for the city of Raleigh, as well as being home to the North Carolina Branch of the US Bankruptcy Court. It is a gem that helps give Fayetteville Street its charm, vibrancy, and beauty.
