Summary[edit]

Description
English: The original Fort Parker was completed in March 1834. The large stockade was built of split cedars, buried in the ground, and extending about twelve feet. Two two-story blockhouses were erected at opposite corners. Within the fort were two rows of log cabins.

The most noteworthy event at the fort occurred on May 19th 1836, when a band of Indians attacked, taking five captives. The most famous of these was 9-year old Cynthia Ann Parker. She was adopted by a Comanche family, grew up to marry Chief Peta Nocona and later became the mother of Quanah Parker, the last great Warrior Chief of the Comanches.

The present-day structure was built in 1936 during the Texas Centennial. It was reconstructed in its original location. It is now a Texas state park.

We visited the park in July 1987.
