Español: La fundación de Santiago (1888) de Pedro Lira (1845-1912) es una de las obras más conocidas del siglo XIX chileno. La escena introduce al conquistador Pedro de Valdivia y sus huestes en el acto de la fundación de la ciudad de Santiago el 12 de febrero de 1541 en la cima del cerro Huelen. Esta pintura ha sido considerada, desde su primera exhibición en la Exposición Nacional de 1888, como un símbolo nacional.
English: The Foundation of Santiago (1888) by Pedro Lira (1845-1912) is one of the best-known works of the Chilean 19th century. The scene introduces the conqueror Pedro de Valdivia and his hosts in the act of founding the city of Santiago on February 12, 1541 at the top of Cerro Huelen. This painting has been considered, since its first exhibition at the National Exhibition of 1888, as a national symbol. |
