Summary
[edit]DescriptionOnizuka Center for International Astronomy.jpg |
English: The Onizuka Center for International Astronomy, formerly known as Hale Pohaku, provides facilities for astronomers and staff of the Mauna Kea observatories to eat and sleep at the 9000-ft. elevation while working at the observatories at night. The original "stone house" was built in the 1930s for hunters. These dormitories were built in 1983, and the complex renamed in 1986 for Hawaii-born astronaut Ellison Onizuka, who died in the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster. |
