English: Opening double-page from the juz' 9 of the Sultan Barquq's Qur'an. This opening contains all that remains of the double carpet pages and first page of text. The leaf that was originally between them has been lost. Chapter 7, al-A‘raf (The Heights), verses 88–89. Copied by ‘Ali ibn Muhammad al-Mukattib al-Ashrafi (attribution), illuminated by Ibrahim al-Amidi (attribution) perhaps assisted by another artist. Donated by a deed of waqf (religious endowment) to a mosque in Cairo by Sultan Faraj ibn Barquq (1399 - 1412), probably originally commissioned by Sultan al-Ashraf Sha'ban or his mother Khawand Baraka.
