Description
English: Demethylation of opianic acid. The reaction of opianic acid with strong hydrochloric or hydriodic acid is already described in 1867 by A. Matthiessen and G.C. Foster: "Researches into the chemical constitution of narcotine and of its products of decomposition" The successively showed compounds are 6-formyl-2,3-dimethoxybenzoic acid; 6-formyl-3-hydroxy-2-methoxybe​nzoic acid and 6-formyl-2,3-dihydroxybenzoic ​acid.
