Summary[edit]

Description
English: The Otto Heinz House, 18 Elam Place, Buffalo, New York, October 2020. A contributing property to the NRHP-listed Parkside East Historic District, the Heinz House's design exemplifies a version of Queen Anne architecture that, paradoxically, is stripped down pretty much to the barest essentials of the style yet sports some impressive detailing. The massive front gable and twin octagonal bays on the second floor impart a blocky look to the façade, while the Doric-style front porch is lent a degree of the style's requisite asymmetry by a pediment situated slightly to the left of center, the front of which is bedecked by some ornate foliate carvings. The brightly colored yellow and sky-blue trim on the exterior serves to highlight the sunburst design in the woodwork above the attic windows, which themselves sport radiating tracery in their upper portions. Otto Carlton Heinz (1868-1933) was a German-born postal clerk who lived in the house from 1904, the year of its construction, through 1916.
