Description
English: German track star Otto Peltzer works out at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum after gaining permission from the German sports federation to run in three races while visited the United States. This photograph (cropped) appears with the article, "Dr. Peltzer Given Permission to Run Here; Colliseum Likely to be Scene of First Showing," Los Angeles Times, 20 Jan. 1928: 11. Peltzer, the world record holder at the 880 at the time, was particularly interested in running on the Coliseum track, which he praised as a fast track. Two months after this photograph was taken he ran against local racers and set a new Southern California record. . During World War II, Peltzer was imprisoned by the Germans because was gay.
