Summary
[edit]DescriptionOłtarz Ojczyzny.jpg |
English: Altar of Homeland (Blessed Sacrament), symbolizing the national unity. The profuse baroque altar was constructed in about 1700 according to design by a prominent architect Tylman Gamerski. On September 6, 1944 when Germans detonated two large Goliath tracked mines in the church (they usually carried 75–100 kg (165–220 lb) of high explosives) the altar was completely destroyed, together with the facade of the church, vaulting, high altar and side altars.[1] |
