Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Pressure-volume diagram showing the evolution of a gas during an expansion. When the evolution is reversible (slow movement, left), then the work W in a closed thermodynamic system is the integral of -p dV over the evolution. Otherwise (dashed line) the value of this integral will not represent the work done.
