English: Description from Ancient History Encyclopedia: The Minoan stone vessel known as the 'Harvester Vase', from Hagia Triada on Crete, 1500-1450 BCE. The vase is carved from serpentine and was originally covered in gold leaf. The scenes in relief depict a sowing festival and the vase was probably used to pour liquids during religious rituals. (Archaeological Museum of Heraklion, Crete).
(description correction: This is not a sowing festival - it is more likely a reaping/harvesting festival as may be noted by the scythes which the men are carrying, and the long stalks of grain depicted) The original photo was taken and uploaded to Wikimedia Commons by user:Aeleftherios own work 16:09, 1 November 2010. This version of the image has been cropped slightly, white balanced, and the background has been changed to solid white. |
