Inv 466, H. MACHARIUS, patroon van de pestlijders, XVIIde eeuw, circa 1632 ?, door Gaspar DE CRAYERdo; doek 297 cm x 222 cm; boven de biechtstoel, in kapel XXV. De heilige bisschop is geknield; hij heeft de armen breed uitgestrekt en blikt ten hemel terwijl een vlam, als symbool van de besmetting, zijn borst raakt. Zijn koormantel is versierd met beeltenissen van apostelen. De diaken die hem volgt deelt aalmoezen uit; pestlijders knielen of liggen rond hem. Stadsgezicht met hoge gotische kerk en begrafenisstoet. Oorspronkelijk altaarstuk van de Machariuskapel XXV en mogelijk in verband te brengen met de stichting van de Confrerie van Sint- Macharius in 1632. Vermeld door de Sadeleire e.a. tot Kervyn (1857, 96); in 1867, ter gelegenheid van het 700-jarig jubileum en de neogotische wederuitrusting van de kapel, derhalve de afbraak van het altaar dd. 1617, tegen de westwand gehangen.
