Created map myself. Palaiseau est une commune française située à dix-huit kilomètres au sud-ouest de Paris, sous-préfecture du département de l'Essonne, dans la région Île-de-France, siège de la communauté d'agglomération du plateau de Saclay. Domaine royal au VIe siècle puis à nouveau au XVIIIe siècle sur la route importante de Chartres à Paris, la commune s'industrialisa fortement dès le XIXe siècle avec l'arrivée de nombreuses voies de chemin de fer, devint un centre ouvrier important, partie de la banlieue rouge, phénomène accentué dans la seconde moitié du XXe siècle avec la construction de nombreuses cités-jardins. Associée au développement de Massy et du plateau de Saclay, elle accueille sur son territoire l'École polytechnique, l'ENSTA et SupOptique, ainsi que des centres de recherche.

Ses habitants sont appelés les Palaisiens1.
