DescriptionPalmetto Regiment Monument (Detail).jpg |
Erected in 1858 by the State of South Carolina to honor the heroism of South Carolina’s Palmetto Regiment during the Mexican War. The Palmetto Regiment is the oldest monument on the State House Grounds. Sculptor: Christopher Werner - Charleston, SC I think it a phenomenal piece of artwork. This is only part of it. There are 4 of these columns surrounding the Palmetto Tree with 4 eagles surrounding it. I wanted to show the details of this amazing art. Remember it was forged in the 1850's View On Black |
