Palmyra Hypogeum of the Three Brothers

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: An underground tomb in Palmyra, mid second century AD. It offered rich insight intp Palmyrene painting styles. After descending a short flight of stairs one can see an inscription informing us that three brothers built it as a commercial arrangement. A main corridor is preceded by two wings. The layout provided 65 side-corridors each containing five burial niches or loculi. At the end of the main corridor a fresco shows the three principal sponsors in circular frames carried by winged victories. Many other frescoes can also be seen.
